Badjie Education Fund
In 1999, Cathy Bernatt, the president of Creating...
participated in an Earthwatch Institute
Expedition called The Drums of the Gambia. Deeply transformed
by her experience there, she came back with a mission to help assure that
the 23 children of the family she lived with could attend school. In the
Gambia every student must pay to go to school and in many cases, if students
cannot pay, teachers would not let them come to school. As a passionate
educator, Cathy wanted to help assure that every student had an opportunity
to get an education. In 1999 she began the Badjie Education Fund. In the
first several years, it was funded through Wanderlust Adventures, an organization
that Cathy started to provide cultural and outdoor adventure opportunities
for people living in Japan. Currently, the Badjie Education Fund is being
supported through the work of Creating... .
